When my son gets presents, it’s a bonus if it’s educational! This week I wanted to focus on educational gifts for kids. I tried to include something for everyone from infant to age 12. I love the idea that they are truly learning while playing, and don’t even know they are!
Educational Gifts for Kids
Gifts for Kids under 2
If you know me you know that I love BOOKS as a fantastic gift for our children. I try to encourage the love of reading at all ages. So, naturally, I love these Soft Cloth Baby Books.
You can also make bath time fun and educational. I love bath toys as gifts. This Octopus bathtime toy will help with eye-hand coordination. It has an octopus with rings that you can toss over it’s tentacles.
My son had this Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Kitchen, and it was probably his all time favorite toy. It’s a refrigerator full of busy fun, including on & off light switch, interactive faucet, clock/timer with spinning roller, 3 shapes to sort, book to flip & more! It opens for two sides of play, and has 4 different modes: Learning, Learning in Spanish, Music and Imagination. This is one toy you won’t regret purchasing. It will be played with over and over again!
The Fisher Price Little People make great toys for your little ones as well! They are suggested for 12 months to 5 years. I like the Fisher Price Caring for Animals Farm Set.
Gifts for Kids Ages 2-5
Little Passports is a gift that keeps giving all year with subscription plans. Little Passports doesn’t leave out the little ones when it comes to a great educational toy! Their Early Explorers focuses on ages 3-5. The Early Explorers plan can be bought monthly, 6 months, or 12 months. Give your preschooler the world! Every month, your gift arrives filled with activities, stickers, and a special game or toy while they learn about themes like Dinosaurs, Space, World Music or Art.
If you aren’t wanting to commit to a subscription plan, they have some great educational toys you can get instead.
They have a Pretend & Play School Set that will help your child get excited about school by encouraging him or her to play the teacher! The Pretend and Play School Set not only supports imaginative play, social interaction, and problem solving, but encourages school readiness for young students. The playset features a travel-friendly tri-fold board with dry erase surface, double-sided map, clock, working school bell and a 15” hand pointer.
I am enamored with the Veggie Farm Sorting Set and I really wish my son was young enough for this! Help your little ones improve their recognition, matching, and early counting skills. Aside from learning new veggie vocabulary, kids can use these figures, along with the included bushel baskets and soft foam playmat, to work on other real-world skills. The set features 5 different types of vegetables, 10 garden signs, and a colorful 11×8 garden play board.
Gifts for Kids Ages 6-12
Little Passports has several different choices for this age group.
Ages 6-10 may love their World Edition. Give them a worldwide adventure that will spark their love of travel! Explore a new country every month as packages arrive filled with letters, souvenirs, activities, recipes and more.
Ages 7-12 may want to branch out to the USA edition!! Give them a road trip every month to two US states. Discover cool landmarks, history, and test out regional recipes, crafts, puzzles, activities and more!
You can also choose the Science Expeditions for your future scientist age 9+. Build rockets, extract DNA from a strawberry, build a skeleton and so much more! Every month, your gift arrives filled with hands-on experiments, STEM activities, and a fun comic book.
If subscriptions aren’t something you want to commit to, you can even buy individual past boxes or kits as a one time gift, like this Weather Lab Science Kit!
A little known fact about me is that my very first degree was in the visual arts. So, I love promoting the arts!
This Make Your Own Comic Book Kit is the PERFECT gift for your comic book lover ages 6 and up. It comes with two 32-page books printed with blank cells ready for your illustrations, 10 washable markers, 2 stencil templates for type and bubbles, 5 rubber stamps, 3 foam ink pads, 3 bottles of stamp ink, and a storage box.
I’m also a fan of this Cross Stitch Kit!! Suggested for ages 8+. It includes an instruction book, white and black aida fabric, and aida fabric cuff bracelet, ,adhesive board frame, embroidery needles and thread, and an embroidery hoop.
Those are just a few of the great family & kid project kits you can get through Craftsy! They have so much more, including this adorable My Little Pediatrician Kit!
When you are considering educational Christmas gifts this year, I urge you to think outside the boundaries of “girl toys” or “boy toys”. Let’s break the boundaries of gender with Christmas gifts!
