Here’s a list of things to things to pack on an amusement park trip! Don’t get stuck without these essential amusement park items!
Last spring, my friends and I took a little road trip to Kings Island, an amusement park that is about 1 1/2 hours away. When we left, I was sunburnt, had soggy wet socks, and was exhausted. This year, I’m looking back on our trip to Kings Island and what I would do differently.
What Should I Pack on an Amusement Park Trip?
Sunscreen
Obviously, taking sunscreen would be the top of the list. (You should always wear sunscreen even if it’s cloudy! Trust me, I know from experience.)
Sunglasses
You don’t want to have a headache from squinting all day in the hot sun. HOWEVER – BEWARE. We saw a ton of sunglasses and hats that had flown off during rides, so you might want to stow them on your roller coaster rides.
A change of clothes
This is a great idea for the ride home particularly. I got soaked on a water ride and was miserable for the rest of the day and on the car ride home. I wouldn’t have necessarily taken them in the park with me but I could have changed at a local gas station or restaurant.
Flip flops
I was smart and wore tennis shoes in the park. They were comfortable for extended walking. Then, we did a water ride. I was drenched! Once we were ready to go home, wet socks and shoes were not fun. I could have quickly slipped out of those and into some flip flops before we got into the car.
Towels
Again, super wet wasn’t comfy. You can use the towel to shield your car seats from your wet clothes or use it to dry off after you change out of those wet clothes.
A Backpack
You need a backpack to store iPhones, wallets, tickets, etc without carrying a purse or sticking it in your pockets. I like the very popular one sling strap backpacks right now. You could also do a cute cinch sack.
Hair Ties
Nothing nastier than roller coaster hair. You will want to pull your hair back if it’s long, so it doesn’t get tangled and oily.

Cash
For the arcades, as I needed a break from the rides. I would take a set amount of cash you are willing to spend on arcades. Perhaps that is $20 for everyone. The cash makes the arcades more convenient, and if you have a set amount, once you are done, then you are done. You also don’t want to overspend in the arcade, and it’s easy to do if you don’t set an arcade budget before you go.
Hand Sanitizer
Well, because public places are kind of gross. It also gives you the ability to sanitize your hands before you order snacks or lunch. (I’ll just admit to you that I’m the girl that uses Lysol wipes on her airplane seat/arms before I sit down and I keep hand sanitizer in my purse at all times. I’m not a good sick person, so I just try to avoid that at all costs.)
Snacks and bottled water
You might want your own snacks that are healthier, like granola or protein bars. You also will want to bring a refillable bottle for water so you can stay hydrated without paying a ton for bottled water or calorie-filled sodas. (Be sure to check with the amusement park rules on outside food and drink before doing so.)
I hope this list will leave you better prepared for your amusement park trip than I was! Do you have any thoughts on things I should add to my own list? Have a great time!
