I had the pleasure of taking a mixology class while on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship. It costs a small additional fee and it usually sells out. I was just walking around the ship one day when I decided to go to guest services to see if there were any spots left – an hour before. I managed to luck out and there were TWO spots left, so I signed my husband and I up!
We got to take turns coming up to the bar and doing a hands-on experience. The bartender would walk us through making the drinks. The cocktail I got to make was the Texas Sunrise, which happened to be my favorite at the end.
I have made it successfully a few times since coming home as well, so I want to share the recipe for it with you!
Texas Sunrise Cocktail – with Vodka
Supplies Needed
- silicone ice tray for ice balls
- high ball glasses
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces of Tito’s vodka
- passion fruit juice (Word of advice here. Don’t get the liquor store passion fruit mixers. Get REAL passion fruit juice.)
- grenadine
How to Make the Texas Sunrise
- Place ice in the glass.
- Pour in vodka.
- Top with passion fruit juices.
- Add grenadine. I just add enough for the beautiful color as it settles in the bottom.
The way the bartender explained this drink is that it is a layered drink. He said that the heaviest settles into the bottom and so this drink is one that doesn’t have to be stirred or shaken.
You can certainly garnish your drink if you like. However, I find the beauty of the drink enough.
Now, all that is left to do is to sit back and enjoy your cocktail!
