I have been such a slow knitter lately. Some of it’s just warmer weather – I always slow down a little. Unfortunately, though, I have a lot of things in “time out” because I’ve made mistakes in them, and have been too lazy to fix them. All of my mistakes were happening at night because I just couldn’t see. Sometimes, my eyes would get SO blurry that I would almost feel pain. It would physically hurt to keep using my eyes. This also slowed me down because night is when I actually have the time to knit a little, and I’d have to put it away because I couldn’t see.
I finally went to the eye doctor thinking I needed glasses. (I mean, I am almost 40.) Nope. It wasn’t my vision. I still have 20/20 vision. It was such extreme dry eye that in the evening my eyes just couldn’t take it anymore. And the dry eye is due to my thyroid. Since my thyroid medication has been adjusted, however, I do notice some improvement in my eyes. I also have some drops to use as well.
Anyway, enough about that – just had to preface the slow knitting a bit.
WIP #1: Vanilla Sock
I always keep a sock project on hand. I do a memorized “recipe” for an after thought heel, usually with a self-striping hand painted yarn. (We call this a vanilla sock, meaning it’s a plain sock with no fancy stitches or work.) I like these for car projects, keeping in my purse, and the mobility of the small knit. It also doesn’t require a ton of attention since it is so straight forward.
My current WIP (work in progress) for a sock is this beautiful self-striping hand painted yarn from Must Stash Yarn in the Lavender Apple Blossom color way.

WIP #2: High Sierra Shawl
The biggest WIP that I finally took out of time out is my High Sierra shawl by designer Romi Hill. It is from a Craftsy class, which is in a knit along format. It is taught by the designer herself!! I love that even though it’s a knit along, it can be done at my own pace. I also purchased all the yarn from Craftsy as well, and got a very nice discount since I purchased them along with the class!! I’ve learned so much from her class, and I considered myself an advanced knitter. My favorite was a new bind off I have never seen or done before, and it was brilliant and such a beautiful edge.
I had somehow managed to knit BACKWARDS with two yarns. Now, how I did that is beyond me, and I couldn’t do that again if I tried! I fixed my error, and my stitch count is correct again so I’m finally back on track!! I can’t wait to get to the next gorgeous lace panel of this shawl.

Do you knit? Crochet? What are you working on? I’d love to see or hear about it!
If you would like to learn to knit, I’d recommend this beginning knitting course on Craftsy.
